Project Description
Built
in 1968, the 12-storey PSAC headquarters building is a testament to the
benefits of quality in design and construction materials. Nevertheless,
it was deemed timely to conduct a study of the 30-year-old building to
determine future use and building revitalization requirements.
The project entailed determination of the "spacial equation" over a five-year
period and the required building upgrades to extend the useful life of
the building for a further 25-30 years.
Functional requirements were established for the approximately 300 occupants of the building. The total space required was estimated at approximately 9,960 sq. m.
Efforts were focused on a Phase 1 project consisting of a two stage implementation. The first stage focused on the installation of a new and upgraded "backbone infrastructure" of mechanical and electrical systems; the second stage involved the complete renovation and upgrade of the first level to include the Regional Office and a "light duty" cafeteria.
R.J. Mckee Engineering & Associates was contracted to establish the mechanical and electrical upgrades, costs and timeframes. Schoeler Heaton, the original architectural firm, was contracted to establish base building upgrades, mainly core and lobby related.
Project Cost
Phase 1 - $1.47M (Class 'D')
Phase 2 - $5.5M (Class 'D')
